The Olympics Aren’t Cheap - The Problems
06/23/2003

As NBC just found out, getting U.S. TV rights to the 2010 and 2012 Olympics isn’t a cheap deal. NBC is paying $2.001 billion for these direct rights, which is an increase of 32.6% of what they paid for the 2006/2008 Olympics. How many billions of dollars did they spend for the 2006/2008 Olympics? Express your answer to the nearest tenth.

Part of NBC’s package includes their ability to offer hours of coverage on the Spanish-language network Telemundo. In 2004, they offered 134 hours over 17 days. What was the average number of minutes per day of coverage in Spanish in 2004? Express your answer to the nearest whole number.

In order to win the rights to the Olympics, NBC had to beat out ABC and Fox. Each of the three networks were given an opportunity to present its bid to the IOC panel. In how many different orders could the three networks have presented their bids?
