Solutions to Previous Competitions

This archive of MATHCOUNTS competition solutions is provided to assist those who have purchased previous years’ competition sets and who would like assistance in solving problems from those sets. (Note that the 2009 problems and solutions are available for download on the Previous Competitions page in the Students and Alumni section of mathcounts.org.) If there are competition problems for which we do not provide solutions here, you are encouraged to post the problem to the Coaches’ or Students’ Forums to receive creative solutions from other coaches and students.

MATHCOUNTS thanks long-time volunteer and reviewer, Mady Bauer, for her many years of donating these creative and thorough written solutions to the Chapter and State Competitions. There certainly will be other solutions to many of the problems. However, if you are stumped on a problem, Mady’s solution will be a great help in understanding at least one possible solution method for it!
