MATHCOUNTS Announces an Increased Partnership with Northrop Grumman Foundation Northrop Grumman Foundation supports math programs for U.S. middle school students by sponsoring MATHCOUNTS website
ALEXANDRIA, VA (August 6, 2009) -- MATHCOUNTS, a non-profit mathematics educational foundation (www.mathcounts.org), today announced that the Northrop Grumman Foundation will continue to be a national sponsor for the 2010 program year. MATHCOUNTS is the only nationwide enrichment, club and competition program specifically for middle school math students and reaches over 250,000 middle school students in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, Department of Defense and State Department schools worldwide.
This renewed partnership will support the delivery of website content to the thousands of visitors who come to www.mathcounts.org each year. The MATHCOUNTS website provides guests with information on all MATHCOUNTS programs as well as offers resources and activities to students, parents and teachers. A new math arcade on the website is also being made possible through the Northrop Grumman Foundation.
“With the generous support of the Northrop Grumman Foundation, MATHCOUNTS will continue to provide students with the tools they need for a foundation for success in science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers at a critical time in their education," says Lou DiGioia, Executive Director of MATHCOUNTS. "We look forward to reaching as many middle school students as possible through our newly updated website.”
“We are very excited about the expansion of our partnership,” noted Carleen Beste, Manager of the Northrop Grumman Foundation. “By sponsoring the MATHCOUNTS website, we believe that MATHCOUNTS will be able to more effectively reach the tens of thousands of students who participate in their programs, and further encourage them to pursue careers in a STEM field.”
The Northrop Grumman Foundation has been a long standing sponsor of MATHCOUNTS, and has invested significantly to help train the next generation of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) workforce. In addition to financial support, Northrop Grumman Foundation assists MATHCOUNTS through volunteerism and community involvement from Northrop Grumman employees.
By engaging students at the critical middle school age, MATHCOUNTS programs build foundations in critical thinking and problem solving that help our students succeed in the classroom and later in life.
