Life After MATHCOUNTS Students always want ideas on what to do after they leave MATHCOUNTS. Below are some programs you might find interesting. JETS- Junior Engineering Technical Society
JETS is a national non-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting engineering and technology careers to our nation's young people. Since 1950, JETS academic competitions, educational activities, and career guidance resources have been exciting students about careers in engineering and technology. JETS makes engineering "real," "relevant," and "fun" by helping students discover engineering for themselves. We provide programs and resources that let students learn about and experience engineering first-hand. From exciting student competitions to assessment tools and career exploration materials, JETS helps students plan for rewarding futures by showing them how engineering can help them pursue their dreams. JETS programs touch more than 40,000 students and 10,000 educators from 6,000 high schools across the country every year. JETS participants are a diverse group-more than 1/2 are from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in engineering and technology fields, including 1/3 who are female.
National Engineers Week, Future City Competition
The mission of the National Engineers Week Future City Competition is to provide a fun and exciting educational engineering program for seventh- and eighth-grade students that combines a stimulating engineering challenge with a "hands-on" application to present their vision of a city of the future.
This will be accomplished by: • Fostering engineering skills, such as teamwork, communication and problem solving skills;
• Providing interaction among students, teachers, and engineer mentors;
• Informing the community about the multi-disciplines within the engineering profession;
• Inspiring students to explore futuristic concepts and careers in engineering. The National Engineers Week Future City Competition requires: • Problem-solving
• Team work
• Research and presentation skills
• Practical math and science applications
• Computer skills The competition employs a team-based approach. All members of the team have an important role that is necessary for the completion of the project.
