Personal Trainer: Math and MATHCOUNTS Partnership
Game On! Nintendo and MATHCOUNTS have teamed up with middle schools like yours to help boost membership. Starting Feb. 25, Nintendo will provide four clubs that have reached Silver Level status in the MATHCOUNTS Math Club program with 20 Nintendo DS™ systems and copies of Personal Trainer™: Math.
To be eligible to participate and win, all interested middle schools and clubs have to do is register for the MATHCOUNTS Math Club Program and attain Silver Level club status by March 25. As an incentive to get clubs to participate, MATHCOUNTS will randomly distribute a Nintendo DS system and a copy of Personal Trainer: Math to fifteen clubs (five from each of its Bronze Silver and Gold Level clubs).
Personal Trainer: Math for the portable Nintendo DS system is a fun, fast-paced way to practice basic math skills, with 40 exercises that range from basic addition and multiplication to more extensive multiplication tables and calculation ladders.
At the core of Personal Trainer: Math is the 100-Cell Method. The method features a 10x10 grid with numbers along the top and left sides, allowing players to add, subtract or multiply the numbers and write the answers in the corresponding grid spaces provided. Up to 16 players who each have a DS system can use a single game card to race each other to complete a 100-Cell quiz.
As part of the partnership, Nintendo and MATHCOUNTS will also distribute a worksheet on the 100-Cell Method to clubs so that they can experience some of the features found in Personal Trainer: Math. In addition to the 100-Cell Method, daily math drills and an attendance record help players stay on track.
